BTQ and TIDAL PWR to Draft a Blueprint for Quantum-Ready Data Centers
BTQ Technologies and TIDAL PWR are working together on a reference architecture for data centers that may one day house quantum systems alongside AI and high-performance computing. TIDAL PWR, based in Texas, builds power generation and data center infrastructure; BTQ works on post-quantum security and procurement frameworks. At this stage the collaboration produces documents, not facilities.
What the quantum data center framework includes
The problem the two describe is real enough. AI, HPC, and quantum workloads are starting to land in the same buildings, and operators have no settled playbook for what quantum equipment to buy, how to secure it, or which vendors and components to trust. According to the July 20 press release, the companies plan to draft design principles, procurement standards, supply chain and vendor assessment criteria, and security frameworks covering things like AI model weights and privileged access, then package it as a repeatable deployment model.
BTQ’s contribution should center on solutions architecture, post-quantum security guidance, and vendor mapping. The two say they will start with a planning and architecture track and may expand into project work later.
Why the partnership is still an early step
This is an agreement to produce a framework, with no contract value, timeline, or facility attached, and the workstreams are more of a proposed scope than deliverables.
In terms of framing, BTQ CEO Olivier Roussy Newton said the aim is to help define “what a quantum data center should look like before the market standard is set,” which is two companies positioning to write a standard they would then be well placed to supply against. As he explained:
“Building trusted quantum infrastructure is not just about the technology itself. It is about giving operators a clear path to deploy it.”
The underlying trend is worth watching, though. Making quantum hardware fit inside ordinary data centers, rather than purpose-built labs, is becoming a recurring theme across the industry.
