QPerfect Builds a Digital Twin of France’s Public Quantum Machine

QPerfect, a subsidiary of BTQ Technologies, is building a software replica of a French quantum computer before the completion of the machine itself. The company will use its MIMIQ simulation platform to create a hardware-accurate digital twin of aQCess, described as France’s first publicly accessible neutral-atom quantum processor. The two teams are working together at the University of Strasbourg, where aQCess is under development.

How the aQCess digital twin will work

A digital twin is a software model that behaves like the physical machine. According to the July 22 press release, QPerfect’s version copies aQCess at the circuit level, down to its native gate set, its instruction set, its atom-transport operations, and its experimentally measured noise, then runs as a virtual backend that mirrors the physical processor. It will be available on site at Strasbourg’s CESQ lab and through the cloud.

Researchers can design and test quantum programs against the model before the hardware is ready, then keep using it alongside the physical system once that comes online. QPerfect and the aQCess team share a building, which gives the software side close contact with the machine during its assembly.

Why QPerfect is building it before the hardware exists

aQCess is led by the CESQ lab, a joint effort of the University of Strasbourg and France’s CNRS, and it’s backed by the country’s national quantum strategy. It’s aiming for more than 400 qubits and open access for researchers and companies. That figure is a target rather than a working machine, so the twin models a processor still in the process of building.

The companies disclosed no funding figure or timeline. Executive quotes, including BTQ CEO Olivier Roussy Newton’s “trusted quantum technologies” framing, are positioning ahead of any results. For BTQ, the deal buys a foothold in European neutral-atom hardware through software. It’s the company’s third quantum move to cross this desk, after chip-security and data-center partnerships.
