D-Wave Moves Its Stock Listing From NYSE to Nasdaq

D-Wave Quantum is moving its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq. The switch takes effect after the market closes on July 24, with shares set to begin trading on Nasdaq on July 27 under the same ticker, QBTS. The company says it has met Nasdaq’s listing requirements and expects no disruption to trading.

What the Nasdaq move means for D-Wave investors

A listing transfer moves where a stock trades, not the business behind it. Specifically, the ticker stays the same, and D-Wave’s operations, products, and shares are unaffected by the venue change. Per the July 14 press release, CEO Alan Baratz framed the move around Nasdaq’s technology focus and called D-Wave “the first commercial quantum computing company,” which is the company’s own characterization. For shareholders, the practical effect is minimal.

“As the first commercial quantum computing company and a leader in delivering real-world quantum performance, D-Wave is well aligned with the innovation Nasdaq represents. We’re accelerating adoption of quantum solutions with customers around the world and look forward to working with Nasdaq during this transformative time in computing.”

Why the listing change is less important than the stock’s performance

The switch comes during a rough stretch for the stock. Data cited by Investing.com put QBTS around $18.66, down about 11% over the past week and nearly 40% below its 52-week high of $46.75, with a market cap near $6.9 billion. Those figures are secondhand and move constantly, but the price trend is a more telling detail than the exchange change itself.

D-Wave is one of the few quantum companies pursuing two hardware approaches at once, quantum annealing and gate-model systems, offered through its Leap cloud platform and for on-premises use by commercial, government, and research customers. The Nasdaq listing does not change any of that.

This is administrative housekeeping more than a milestone. A move to Nasdaq puts D-Wave alongside the exchange’s cluster of technology names.
