IonQ Raises 2026 Revenue Outlook to $450M–$460M

On September 8, IonQ announced an updated full-year 2026 revenue projection of $450 million to $460 million. This revised outlook is attributed to the acquisition of chip foundry SkyWater Technology, incorporating five months of SkyWater’s revenue, from the July 31 closing date through year-end, after intercompany sales from a prior commercial agreement were excluded. This forecast was set for the company’s investor day and is not an audited result; it provides no information regarding the performance of IonQ’s quantum hardware.

Revised Outlook Details

The updated guidance came out on the same day IonQ hosted its first joint investor day with SkyWater. Inder Singh, CFO and COO, referred to the figure as the company’s “first combined guidance as a unified organization.” IonQ explained that the range reflects both demand for its platform and SkyWater’s manufacturing revenue.

This marks the second increase to IonQ’s 2026 outlook, with the first occurring on August 5 after the company reported a record second quarter. That earlier announcement noted a 287% year-over-year increase in second-quarter revenue. This latest increase, occurring within approximately five weeks, primarily stems from the consolidation of the acquired business.

SkyWater’s Contribution

SkyWater, a U.S.-based semiconductor foundry and a Defense Department accredited supplier, was acquired by IonQ. IonQ announced the acquisition earlier in 2026, describing the combined entity as a vertically integrated quantum company. The deal finalized on July 31, 2026. According to IonQ, owning the foundry provides manufacturing capacity and could accelerate progress toward “commercial-scale, fault tolerant quantum computing,” as stated by CEO Niccolo de Masi.

This timeline remains a projection. Though owning a foundry offers manufacturing capabilities, it does not, by itself, demonstrate a working error-corrected quantum machine.

No New Computing Results

The announcement does not include details on qubit count, error rates, or benchmarks. Fault tolerance is a stated goal. Investors will still require audited full-year figures, evidence of successful SkyWater integration, and quantifiable hardware results to assess the company’s roadmap.
