Sitehop Targets Five Eyes Defense Networks With Quantum Security
Sitehop, a UK-based encryption vendor, has launched a new business unit dedicated to securing older defense networks for the UK and its Five Eyes partners. The company asserts that its hardware-based encryption can safeguard systems that are incompatible with modern cryptographic upgrades, without requiring the replacement of underlying equipment.

According to the August 25 report, the company has introduced a “national security unit” leveraging its existing product line. Sitehop develops encryption devices based on reprogrammable FPGA hardware, as opposed to software stacks, and markets these for network layer data protection. The core appeal to defense buyers is the ability to add protection to aging infrastructure, thereby avoiding lengthy replacement programs.
Sitehop characterizes its technology as “quantum-ready” and post-quantum. The announcement doesn’t specify the algorithms used by these devices, which makes it impossible to confirm whether they implement NIST’s finalized post-quantum standards (FIPS 203, 204, and 205) or a proprietary solution.
The company also highlights AI threats and “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks, the latter referring to the concern that adversaries may collect encrypted data today for decryption once a cryptographically relevant quantum computer becomes available. Such a machine doesn’t exist yet.
The release references previous work, including a deployment with an unnamed tier-one telecom across seven countries, an ongoing trial with an unnamed UK retailer for payment data, and a proof-of-concept conducted at BT’s test facility.

This claim regarding present-day software vulnerabilities in legacy systems is inherently valid. However, the quantum aspect here is prospective. Sitehop’s devices are being marketed to address a threat that has yet to materialize, alongside conventional cyber risks that are already present. The company hasn’t published performance data or independent validation to substantiate its encryption claims. Until a named buyer and a certified algorithm set are disclosed, this remains an announcement of intent.
