Qoro, Hartree Centre Partner on Hybrid Quantum-HPC Software
Qoro Quantum and the STFC Hartree Centre have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop hybrid quantum-classical computing tools utilizing the UK facility’s high-performance computing (HPC) systems. This agreement focuses on software integration and reference workflows.
Details of the Agreement
Qoro announced the MoU on September 8, 2026. Qoro, a company specializing in network software for distributed quantum computing, reports having between one and ten employees. The Hartree Centre, located at the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire, is a component of UK Research and Innovation, with a focus on HPC, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
The initiative aims to integrate Qoro’s software with Hartree’s HPC infrastructure via the Quantum Resource Management Interface (QRMI). Above this interface, Qoro’s open-source Python library, Divi, will generate and route Slurm jobs to the Hartree scheduler. Below it, Qoro’s Maestro simulation engine will function as an execution backend, alongside offerings from vendors such as IBM and Pasqal. The QRMI methodology is further detailed in an arXiv paper cited by the partners.
Kate Royse, Director of the STFC Hartree Centre, outlined the objective in the release:
“At the Hartree Centre we are focussed on getting the most from emerging computing technologies by applying them to UK industry and public sector challenges. We’re really keen to explore how we can make hybrid quantum-classical computing work harder for the UK economy through this new collaboration with Qoro.”
Remaining Achievements
The press release states that the work “addresses a real scientific problem in electronic structure theory and quantum chemistry“ and demonstrates quantum computing’s value “without waiting for future quantum advantage.” This assertion originates from Qoro. Currently, demonstrations rely on simulation through Maestro.
The partners have indicated that future expansion to real quantum processing units (QPUs) and pilot programs in energy, finance, and pharmaceuticals are possibilities, contingent on initial results. Both conditions highlight that the more challenging steps are still pending. For now, the primary deliverable is documentation: reference workflows for UK researchers.
No specific qubit counts, benchmarks, or timelines have been disclosed, as quantum hardware is not involved at this stage. Furthermore, the MoU does not include an announced funding figure. Dan Holme, Qoro CEO and co-founder, noted that the collaboration allows the company to “demonstrate our combined software stack against practical challenges.”
Essentially, the agreement represents a software integration effort and a signed commitment to further exploration. Whether this initiative ultimately involves real quantum processors will depend on future work.
